We spent Sunday 29 June 2003 out on the Du Kloof 4X4 trail near Paarl. We were blessed with incredibly good weather after a very chilly start early in the morning.

The scenery is awesome and when up at the top at the picnic site, cars on the motorway below look like dinky toys.

The trail itself is mostly rock, and although not very difficult, there are a couple of technically tricky spots where one needs to be careful not to damage your running boards or undercarriage of your vehicle. One section of the trail is named the running board graveyard and when driving it, it is easy to see how it got its name. I would not like to try and drive this trail in the wet as I imagine it would become a pretty slippery nightmare. I understand from a friend who drove the trail the previous winter that they only managed to get through a very short section of the trail in a day as it was so wet and they were constantly busy recovering each other as they got stuck.

Here are couple of photos of the trip.
