This section of the site is dedicated to one of my interests that I unfortunately don't get around to pursuing as much as I would like to, which is getting out into the bush in a 4X4.

Living in the Western Cape, we are extremely fortunate as we have some of the best 4X4 trails in South Africa right on our doorstep. We are privileged to have trails that provide us with a variety of different terrains that test all off road driving skills. I also think that we are extremely spoilt with the natural beauty all around us.

Myself and the friends with whom I go out ensure that we respect nature and therefore make sure we do not cause any damage where we drive. We also ensure we leave no litter behind so those who come after us enjoy things as much as we do. There is nothing worse than arriving in a campsite or stopping at a viewpoint and there is litter lying around.

For now these pages only include a couple of 4X4 links to sites that I enjoy visiting as well as a couple of photographs that I have taken on trails that I have driven. We do not go out to take our vehicles to the limit and risk breaking them and I am by no means an expert. Opinions on trails that I list here should therefore be taken in the context of my experience whilst on the trails concerned.

Here are some interesting links to 4X4 sites that I know of and enjoy visiting from time to time:

Here are some photos of my truck

I used to drive a 1999 Colt Rodeo 2.8 tdi - a lovely comfortable ride on the road with lots of power. These vehicles unfortunately have independent front suspension, and my personal preference for offroad driving is to have a vehicle with a solid front axle.

I sold it and bought myself a 1998 Toyota Hilux Raider Ltd which on the other hand was not that great on the road, was very thirsty, but was an absolutely awesome offroad vehicle. The only downside of the Hilux was that it is slightly underpowered. I recently sold the Hilux to put the money towards an investment property

My butt itched without a 4x4 and I recently undertook a project to build up a new 4x4 vehicle. I decided to get my hands on an old Range Rover Classic and do a bit of work on it. I recently found a vehicle, and have just embarked upon "giving it a bit of attitude. Here is a work in progress picture. Check the next update on this site. Hopefully by then there will be a completed Rangie Classic.

Please go to the link bar on the left hand side of the screen to view the individual pages that I have set up for each of the trails that I have visited thus far. I try to get out off the road at least once a month, but am afraid that I am not very successful at doing so. Keep an eye on the index page of this site were you will always be able to see what I have added to or updated on the site.
